System Components

The TIVUS™ system consists of two main components: a TIVUS™ catheter and a control console. Two TIVUS ™ catheter types are developed by Cardiosonic ltd.

Unidirectional TIVUS™ Catheter


The Unidirectional TIVUS™ catheter is designed for standard transcatheter intervention- compatible with industry-standard 8 Fr guiding catheter and 0.014'' guide wire.

The TIVUS™ catheter is featured with a transducer that delivers directional ultrasound energy. The TIVUS™ catheter is introduced to the renal arteries and ablates hyper-active sympathetic nerves without blocking the blood flow and with no direct contact with the blood vessel. Circumferential treatment is achieved by rotating the catheter within the artery, assisted with visual indication of radiopaque markers.

Multidirectional TIVUS™ Catheter


The Multidirectional TIVUS™ catheter is another renal-denervation product by Cardiosonic which is designed to facilitate and shorten the procedure. Similarly to the Unidirectional TIVUS™, the multidirectional catheter is compatible with standard intervention equipment, such as industry-standard 8 Fr guiding catheter and .014'' guide wire.

The unique treatment head of the catheter is featured with inherent distancing mechanism and multidirectional ultrasonic transducers, for simultaneous ultrasonic energy delivery in several circumferential angles and without interrupting arterial blood flow. This way, thermal damage to non-target tissue is prevented and the treatment is user-friendly and efficient.

Currently, a smaller size Multidirectional TIVUS™ catheter is under development for trans-radial approach. This catheter will be compatible with standard 6F guiding catheter and .014” guide wire and is expected to be used in early 2014.

Control Console

The control console is an integral part of the TIVUS™ System. The control console enables the operator to control the intensity and duration of the ultrasonic treatment performed by the TIVUS™ catheter. In addition, specified algorithms indicate the catheter’s distance from the artery wall and the blood temperature during procedure. These indications serve as safety mechanisms, which enable energy delivery , or alternatively, automatically turn the energy off, if needed.

The console is user-friendly.  The console's GUI indicates when treatment may be safely applied.
